Apple Shooting for iPhone 5 Pre-Orders on September 30th with October 7th Launch?

Backing up a report from TiPb last week claiming that Apple is shooting for an October 7th launch of the iPhone 5, 9 to 5 Mac now reportsthat it is hearing similar information. According to source, Apple is reportedly planning to begin pre-orders for the iPhone 5 on September 29th or 30th, with the actual launch scheduled for either October 7th or 14th.

According to our sources, Apple has been weighing between launching the new iPhone on October 7th or October 14th, but with the product’s latest stages of pre-mass-production currently moving along nicely, Apple is presently shooting towards a launch on the 7th. On top of this, unlike with the iPad 2, Apple plans to offer pre-orders for the new iPhone.

Apple currently plans to begin pre-orders for their next-generation smartphone in the final days of September. The company has still not finalized the pre-order start date, but is debating between Thursday, September 29th and Friday, September 30th. The 30th seems more likely at this point according to one of our sources.

The report comes with strong caveats that Apple’s launch plans are a constantly shifting target and that things could change at any time, but expresses confidence that these are indeed the dates Apple is currently shooting for.

With pre-orders coming at the very end of September, that milestone would presumably be preceded by a media event to introduce the new iPhone and other hardware such as new iPods. While there has been a considerable amount of back-and-forth about whether Apple will bring out the new iPhone in September or October, some of the more mainstream reports have been adamant about an October launch. Complicating the issue is the fact that an introductory media event, possible pre-order start date, and product availability can all occur on separate dates over a period of several weeks, and few reports have specified exactly which, if not all, of those three events they are referring to with their timeframe claims.

This is just an awesome idea for an app: Converse by Riot Software turns your iPad into a traveling, dual-keyboard kiosk that will allow you to have a conversation with anyone you might encounter, no matter how bizarre and filled with phlegmatic squawks his native language is.

Load Converse up on your iPad and two keyboards will pop up, one on each hemisphere of the display. You can specify a language for each keyboard: once that’s done, typing a word or sentence onto one keyboard will result in that word translating into the other keyboard’s language, and vice versa.

As someone who has a pretty impressive vocabulary of physical gestures after years of traveling without a lick of knowledge of any language besides English, I can see how useful this would be. If you can’t communicate with someone, just open up your iPad and start typing. This would also be pretty good for finally asking out that cute foreign girl you (literally) don’t know how to talk to.

Apple and Biggest China Carrier (China Mobile) are getting Ahead !

A report from CapitalVue is making the rounds today for its claims that Apple has finally struck a deal with China Mobile to a launch the iPhone on the world’s largest mobile carrier. China Mobile currently has over 600 million customers.

Unfortunately, the sourcing on the rumor is somewhat uncertain, as the report points to “a company filing” picked up by Chinese-language site ccidcom.com. An automated translation of the article suggests, however, that the report came from the Associated Press, and we have been unable to locate such an article.

WiTricity Demo:

A couple of new Apple patent applications were revealed today, including an incredibly impractical one that demonstrates using your iPod headphones for inductive charging. Apple has researched inductive charging in the past, though it comes with some major limitations.

As we’ve covered before, Apple has also researched alternative options such as WiTricity’s magnetic resonance charging technology. WiTricity is based on the research from MIT’s labs where scientists showed a new method for transferring larger amounts of power wirelessly over more practical distances (up to a couple of meters) than traditional induction.

Apple’s previous research into this technology suggested that your desktop computer could be used as a wireless charging hub for devices in its immediate proximity:

Apple describes a scenario where your iMac could be the source of this resonance power to provide a virtual charging area in front of your computer. Keyboards, mice and even mobile electronic devices like the iPhone or iPad could be charged simply be being in a 1 meter proximity to your computer. In typical Apple fashion, they describe that “by doing away with clumsy and annoying cables and eliminating the need to replace batteries, an easy to use and efficient local computing environment can be provided to the user.”

WiTricity must have been following along, as they’ve posted this video showing how their wireless technology works and even set up a working model of exactly what Apple was describing. iMac charging demo starts at 3 minutes 50 seconds:

WiTricity works on the concept of magnetic resonance where a magnetic field is being alternated in the source device to affect the target devices. Charging can occur over several meters. Apple Releases iOS 4.3.4 to Address Latest Jailbreaking Vulnerability

Apple has just released iOS 4.3.4, making good on a promise to patch a vulnerability that has been used for the latest JailbreakMe.com jailbreaking method but which could also allow malicious downloads to infect users’ devices. The update is available for the iPhone 4/3GS, third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, and all iPads.

 

A special iOS 4.2.9 update is also available for the CDMA iPhone 4. The iOS 4.3.4 update comes in as Build 8K2, while the iOS 4.2.9 registers as Build 8E501. iOS 4.3.4 Software Update Fixes security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files. Apple has also posted security-related documents outlining the three vulnerabilities patched in iOS 4.3.4 and iOS 4.2.9.

Mac os x Lion will come wednesday with new macbook air with thunderbolt

Apple as early as Wednesday will launch two highly anticipated products: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and new Thunderbolt-equipped MacBook Airs, AppleInsider has learned.

According to people with proven track records who would be in a position to know, the new product launches are set to occur later this week. Specifically, one person said the products would be released on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

The latest details align with what AppleInsider was told earlier this month, when it reported that new MacBook Air models with backlit keyboards and Thunderbolt ports would launch the week of July 21.

New white macbook and mac mini coming soon

We have obtained some new information from our source, Mr. X, about Apple’s next Macs. Now that we have this info, we have determined that part numbers for new Mac Pros are not yet available. Instead, these part numbers are actually for an upgraded white MacBook and new Mac mini line.

 

Free 3Gs With next Update?

With talk of Apple seeking to release a cheaper iPhone being revived in recent days, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky now weighs in to report that he believes that Apple will be keeping the iPhone 3GS around even after the next iPhone hardware update, offering the device for free with a two-year contract and at $399 for unsubsidized purchases. Apple currently sells an 8 GB iPhone 3GS for $49 on a two-year contract and $449 unsubsidized.
